East Surrey member, Andrew Elliott, with other local Surrey ACO members met Billy Bowden, Tony Hill and Steve Davis from the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires. The occasion was a meeting at Lord's organised by the ECB ACO in advance of the forthcoming Test match between England and Pakistan. Andrew is captured with Billy Bowden, mimicking his trademark crooked finger "out" signal. A similar event is being organised locally in Surrey on the 8 September - see forthcoming events for more details.

The latest ESCUSA newsletter for members was issued on 23 July 2010.

Meet the umpires
Surrey ACO have organised a 'meet the umpires' event at the Oval on Wednesday 8 September 2010. This is the second day of the LV= County Championship Division 2 match between Surrey and Glamorgan. Half an hour after the close of play (approximately 6pm) members will have the opportunity to meet the match umpires (Nick Cook and Martin Bodenham) in a question and answer session. The meeting will conclude at 7pm. Prior to the meeting, some East Surrey members are watching the game and if you would like to join us please contact John Flatley for further details, via training@esacus.org.uk

ECB Level 1 Umpire Training
ESCUSA are running an ECB Level 1 Umpire training course over two consecutive Saturdays in November 2010 (6 and 13) at Reigate Grammar School. This course is aimed at those wishing to take the first step on the qualification ladder and learning the Laws in more detail. An optional examination follows the course. If you would like to apply for a place on this course, please complete and return the registration form to our Secretary, John Flatley.

Introduction to Umpiring Course

The East Surrey Cricket Scorers and Umpires Association offers the above course to local clubs at a cost of £50. The course lasts approximately 2.5 hours and is run over a single evening. It is aimed at those who might umpire occasionally, for example as parents at a colts match or as a player-umpire during a match. It covers the essential Laws that anyone will need to get started in umpiring and will give participants sufficient information to take the field and umpire with enhanced confidence. For more details please contact John Flatley via training@esacus.org.uk .
