You are the umpire Members will be interested in a new book on the Laws of Cricket, "You are the Umpire", which has been created by legendary sports illustrator Paul Trevillion with the help of Test umpire John Holder. This book will never replace Tom Smith's guide to the Laws of Cricket and is unlikely to feature on a future syllabus for umpires or scorers. However, it is likely to attract the interest of a wider audience and presents points of the law in an accessible and interesting question and answer format . It is based on a comic strip that has been running in the Observer newspaper in the last few years and includes a question (Number 2 on page 81) posed by the East Surrey secretary, John Flatley. To order a copy (at £10.99, a saving of £2 on the RRP) see the Guardian books website.

South Africa thrashed England on Thursday but skipper Graeme Smith complained about Broad looking away and pointing halfway through his run-up. Match referee Alan Hurst and umpires Steve Davis and Alan Hill have decided it was "not an appropriate action". Read the full story on the BBC website.
